Text message terms of service

1. Program description

The Quad County Weather Alert Program sends automated SMS (text) messages about weather and community safety. Messages are intended to supplement—not replace—official warnings from the National Weather Service, NOAA Weather Radio, local media, and emergency management.

Typical message content includes:

• National Weather Service watches, warnings, and advisories for counties you select
• Important local weather-related notices from Quad County Weather when conditions affect public safety
• Occasional service messages related to your subscription (for example, confirmation or county changes)

This is not a marketing or promotional texting program. We do not sell your phone number to third parties for their marketing.

2. Consent

You must opt in before we send alert texts. Opt-in requires checking the consent box on our alert signup form (or another QCW form that clearly describes SMS alerts) and submitting your mobile number and selected counties.

By opting in, you confirm that:

• You are the subscriber or authorized user of the mobile number you provide
• You agree to receive automated texts as described in these terms
• You understand message and data rates may apply according to your wireless carrier plan

3. Message frequency and charges

Frequency varies. You may receive few or no messages during quiet weather. During active severe weather, you may receive multiple messages for different warnings or counties you selected.

Your carrier may charge you for each message sent or received. Quad County Weather does not charge a separate fee for SMS alerts, but standard message and data rates from your wireless provider still apply.

4. Opt out and help

You can cancel SMS alerts at any time:

• STOP — Text STOP to any Quad County Weather alert message from the number that sent it. After processing, you should receive a confirmation that you have been unsubscribed. No further alert messages should be sent unless you sign up again.
• HELP — Text HELP for program information and how to contact us. If automated help is unavailable from your carrier or our provider, email or call us using the contact page.
• Re-subscribe — After opting out, you may sign up again at quadcountyweather.com/alerts/ with a new consent.

5. Information we use

To operate SMS alerts we store and use information you provide, such as your name (if collected), mobile phone number, selected counties, and signup timestamp. This information is used to route alerts, manage your subscription, and improve our service.

We may share data with service providers that help us send messages (for example, SMS delivery platforms) under contractual obligations to protect your information and use it only to provide services to QCW. See also our Privacy Policy.

6. Delivery and emergencies

Wireless networks, handsets, and third-party systems can delay or prevent delivery. Do not rely on SMS as your only warning method. Use multiple sources including NOAA Weather Radio, local sirens, official apps, and local media.

This program is not monitored for emergencies. For immediate danger, call 911 (or your local emergency number).

7. Changes and termination

We may update these terms or modify the alert program. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued receipt of messages after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms unless you opt out.

We may suspend or end the SMS program or your subscription if required by law, carrier rules, abuse prevention, or operational needs.
